* Jabber Foundation is the main starting point.

* JabberFR really excellent web site dedicated to French speaking Jabber community, with full overview of all possible jabber solutions. It is in a sense a better starting point than Jabber Foundation for French speaking people.

Standard Software

The standard multiplatform tools nowadays seem to be Psi and Spark.

Worth to notice

* SamePlace provides a solution integrated to firefox.

* The Coccinella provides a built-in whiteboard feature and VOIP integration. Not sure that this is so stable but at least it exists.
